Can you refinance student loans after consolidation? I consolidated my student loans years ago (when interest rates were high). Last year I called my lender to see if I could refinance and take advantage of the lower interests rates. I was told that I could not do this because I had already consolidated my student loans and you would not refinance without consolidation. Is there any way around this? I am back in school and currently paying cash for tuition. If I instead took out a small student loan this term, could I then consolidate that loan with my other student loan and take advange of the lower interest rates that way?

This company is really not the best and I plan to change soon. Send links and your advice on how they have helped you!

What questions do I need to ask to get the best rates and terms on a Federal Student Loan consolidation? Interest rates (Sallie Mae) will most likely be going up on July 1. I have received many, many offers in the mail to consolidate my school loans (these are similar to credit card offers). I do want to lock in at a fixed lower rate before rates increase. Currently, rates vary from 2.75% to 4.75%. What do I need to know to not get screwed? Are some companies more reputable than others? How would I find out? Are there hidden fees to be worried about? I graduate this June.

How to pay off college loans/debt? What are my options? I know there is something about loan consolidations. I know if you join the armed forces they usually pay off your debt. My student loans have already been consolidated, but I want to reduce my interest rate? Any options? My student loan was consolidated in 1998-1999. They are stafford loans, used to pay for my law school education. My interest rate is at 8.25%, and apart from decreasing the interest rate by .25% with online payment, Sallie Mae/Bank One has offered me no other options, since my loans are already consolidated. Any options, other than to take out a new private loan for consolidation?

Consolidation of student loans? So here's the deal... I'm 21, married, have a 7 month old son, and will be graduating in a year and a half (hopefully with an accounting degree). I'm getting mailed all these "deals" about consolidating my loans. Is there a catch? Are they really good deals? Some of them say to "consolidate by June 1 to lock in low rates." Are the rates really going to get high enough to seriously consider consolidation? Should I do it while I'm still in school? What about refinancing... is it an option? I've reviewed some of the other questions on this topic, so please try to be specific to my particular situation. Thanks
Can debt owed to IRS be paid thru debt consolidation? I owe, owe, owe, but no credit cards, maily school loans and IRS!
Loan Consolidation Questions (Direct & Perkins)? So I recently got out of college and thinking about loan consolidation. I consolidated my Federal Direct Subsidized Stafford Loan a year or so back before the interest increased to 6.8% (While I was still in school). Since that consolidation, I was still in school and accepted another year's worth of Federal Direct Sub Stafford Loan. I also have Perkins Loans. Would it make sense to consolidate my last year's Direct Fed Sub Stafford Loan to my existing consolidated loans? Should I also consolidate the Federal Direct Loan with it too? SallieMae: 5.125% Direct Loan: 6.8% Federal Perkins: 5% If I consolidate those three all together, the weighted interest would be 5.375% Should I leave Perkins Loan out and just reconsolidate my SallieMae with my last year's Direct Federal Sub Loan? This should be then 5.625%
Im considering debt consolidation? I have various written off debts - including old cc's, school loans in collections and my car is on the verge of being of repossessed. Does debt consolidation cover written off / repo'd items? What company's out there would you recommend? Thanks so much!
Student Loan Consolidation...yikes!? I currently have $17,000 in undergrad thru SC Student Loan and $37,000 in Grad School thru Wachovia. Is consolidation the best option for me? I need to advertise for a student loan debt consolidation company that targets students around UF, ideas? By UF I mean the University of Florida, I need some way to network myself with the soon to graduate and the med school/law school/graduate school students. How does amortization work for several loans with the same lender? I have multiple school loans from the same lender. Some undergrad, some graduate, at different interest rates and with different balances. However, I pay one lump sum to the lender each month. This is not a consolidation loan which wouldn't benefit me based on my current rates, this is just me paying with one check and it gets divided up. My question is how do they divide it. I understand that the payment is applied to interest first and then to the principal. What I don't get is how the lender divides the payment between each principal. For instance, if I send a $500 payment. Federal unsubsidized Loan A-accrued interest $70 Federal unsubsidized Loan B-accrued interest $30 Federal subsidized Loan C- interest paid by govt. while in school. Total to pay interest=$100. What happens to the other 400. Does it get split evenly among the three loans? Or does it get applied in a percentage based on the outstanding balance? Should and can I request it be applied in a certain way? I should mention that my loans are deferred right now because I'm school but I'm still paying so the interest doesn't capitalize. Right now there is no certain loan term, eg. 10 years. Until I'm out of school these are just considered extra payments. I don't know if that matters in how they apply the payments. Thanks.

What is the best way to pay off student loans? Upon completion of college, I will owe in access of $40,000 (should have chosen a cheaper University). Besides hoping for a well paying job, any tips on how to pay off the loans in a 3 year time period? Student Loan consolidation help? I am going to be going into a two year paralegal program starting in the fall and I am pretty sure that I got the Stafford Loan for $3,500 and I got a grant for about $900. The Paralegal program will end up costing about $11,000 so I'll need to take out a private student loan. I find all of the financial aid and loans to be very confusing but I was looking at a private loan through Chase Manhattan bank that didn't seem so bad. I was wondering about loan consolidation. Are there any banks that will consolidate federal stafford loans and a private loan together to help you have a lower monthly payment? Chase Manhattan said you cannot consolidate a federal and private loan but I was wondering if maybe another bank would do that? Or is there another smart way to go about handling your loans after graduation? I'm just trying to think of the whole picture and plan for graduating. Also, when you take out a private loan it seems like they all have the variable thing going on..why don't they offer a fixed rate? Do you try to consolidate and get a fixed rate when you're done school? Like I said before...financial aid is very confusing to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
